The owner of this crusoe-esque escape in Comporta is French prince Louis-Albert de Broglie who is known locally as the Prince Gardener, a nickname that comes from the time when he began a tomato plantation in France. A strong campaigner for sustainability preserving natural beauty, he is striving to maintain this unique coastal ecosystem as a sustainable sanctuary through initiatives that could see it becoming what he calls the ‘Green Silicon Valley of Portugal’.
His home in Comporta, sat on the edge of sprawling rice paddies & in earshot of the Atlantic waves crashing on the wild stretch of beach beyond, features a collection of pine cabins with typical thatched rooves. Sleeping eight people in four bedrooms, antique & custom-designed furniture reveal a compendium of artisanal craft, while shaded terraces & a driftwood pool deck complement the house's palette, pulling guests outside to a backdrop of sand & pine forest.

Sleeps: Eight people in four bedrooms
Highlights: Unafraid to experiment with colour, the interiors of the house will leave guests feeling lifted each morning. The scent of the pine forest will only add to that heady holiday feeling as you settle into another day by the pool.
Services: The house is self-catered, however, a concierge service provided by holiday tailors Le Collectionist, is available for those booking through the platform.

The Neighbourhood: The house is located in the peaceful region of Comporta characterised by rural towns, wild Atlantic beaches & a raw rugged landscape: vineyards, rice fields & pine forests tumble down hillsides, while the ocean is a constant uninterrupted smudge on the horizon.
Things to know: Be aware too that Comporta is quite seasonal, so outside of the summer months, some restaurants close. That being said, October & Spring are our favourite times to visit without the crowds.

Casa do Jardim is located on the rice paddies of Comporta, around an hours drive from Lisbon. Fly to Lisbon & rent a little car to take a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
