Surrounded by the sweet scent of the ubiquitous orange groves of Silves in the West Algarve, Quinta da Laranja is buried in a sprawling citrus farm between the Monchique mountains and the glistening Atlantic where beaches are strung out like pebbles of amber on a necklace. Here, what was formerly an old barn for storing the Algarve’s most abundant fruit has been transformed into a whitewashed farmhouse, reimagined with an effortless stripped-back style.
A considered spin on rustic living, the barn’s large living space has been brought to life with interiors that are more about texture than colour; vintage furniture, antiques and flea-market curiosities, handcrafted ceramics for morning coffees, oversized hammocks for naps, and Portuguese blankets for wrapping up in to watch the sunset. Bedrooms are gorgeously warm and familiar yet contemporary, infusing natural fabrics and earthy palettes, softened with muted mustard throws and woven lampshades.
In the almost Mediterranean garden, a sliver of a swimming pool peeks out through the grass and chickens peck around the courtyard, their eggs can be requested to cook in your own private kitchen for breakfast.

The Neighbourhood: A short drive away is the town of Silves, a place that used to be the capital of the Algarve & filled with noble buildings & a sweet square for coffee. The beaches of the West Algarve are here too, backed by orange cliffs & dotted with caves & coves.
Things to know: Don’t expect room service or whippet-fast Wi-Fi. Life here is simpler than that. It’s an enchanting escape where a centuries-old natural way of living is championed as a new adventure. .
The Map
Quinta da Laranja is located just outside the town of Silves, around an hour’s drive from Faro. Fly to Faro & rent a little car to take a road trip while finding some freedom while you’re there.
